After moving to the Austin area in 2003, my wife bought me my first serious digital camera for Christmas. Things began to change, and I began to try to find a way to make my hobby pay for itself. I toyed with selling art prints, but still couldn't find that special 'niche' that I desired. Naturally, I enjoyed taking photos of architecture, but the idea of creating income as an architectural photographer took a while to click... but it did, and I began to fantasize about being paid to shoot for other builders and architects, trying to figure out how I could get into it. Sometime later, something else dawned on me while looking at some less-than-flattering photos in a real estate listing: with the internet now playing such a huge roll in real estate and digital cameras revolutionizing photography, why not shoot real estate for a reasonable fee? Having a formal education and career experience in both residential design and art, I could use my combined understanding of home design and composition to best present homes to prospective buyers as a "real estate photographer". Surely realtors would be willing to pay a price to optimize their internet listings and free their hands of another task... right? Shouldn't builders and designers likewise appreciate an affordable photography service that will show their work in the best light for their ads and portfolios? As it turns out, they both would indeed appreciate such a service. The rest is history...
